you can still use this technique for mineral oil bleeds. you dont need to submerge the lever in a bucket of mineral oil. the whole point of the water is to get rid of little bubbles in the lever piston chamber. it's easier to move...

Well, i think the biggest problem is the feasibility. If they do make a new fork with a tapered steerer, all the old frames would be useless. Also, the trials market is very small, and I'm not sure the reception of the new technology...
